Tydfil property values 'receive a boost'

House prices in the Welsh town Merthyr Tydfil have grown
dramatically in the last few years, according to new statistics
released by Halifax.
Since 2002, prices in the location have risen from £439 to
£1,331 per sq m, an increase of 203 per cent, the bank
stated.
In the UK, the highest price per sq m is in Kensington &
Chelsea, with a figure of £8,386 posted, while the average in
Britain is £2,158 for each sq m.
Overall there has not been a great shift in the prices of
properties in a geographical sense, claimed chief economist at
Halifax Martin Ellis.
"There has been little change in the composition of those areas
with the most and least expensive properties," he commented.
London prices are generally more expensive than elsewhere in the
country, he added.
Recently the government stated that it is looking into ways
homeowners may be able to insure themselves against a fall in
property value.
