Property sector 'should be supported to help UK out of recession'

A Labour politician has stated that support should be given to the
UK's property sector in order to aid the country's economic
recovery.
Nick Raynsford, MP for Greenwich and Woolwich, said this should be
a priority for the housing market while speaking at a meeting of
experts held by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
this week.
"Government should equip the property sector to help lead the UK
out of recession, while ensuring that targeting public investment
at sustainable infrastructure helps to address the challenges of
climate change," he remarked.
The former housing and construction minister was filling in at the
event - arranged as part of RICS' efforts to strengthen ties with
politicians in the run up to the May general election - for Ian
Austin of the Department for Communities and Local
Government.
Shadow housing ministers Grant Shapps of the Conservative Party and
Sarah Teather of the Liberal Democrats were also in
attendance.
