Councils 'have important role in availability of new homes'
Local authorities have an important role to play when it comes to
ensuring there are enough new homes for sale.
This is according to the Labour housing and planning minister John
Healey, who said councils should aim to meet the property needs and
aspirations of people in their areas.
Failure to do this means letting down individuals such as young
consumers who wish to leave their family abodes and set up by
themselves, he noted.
The politician remarked: "It is those sorts of needs of the next
generation that we will be failing in this generation if we don't
recognise the need for new homes and the role that councils should
play."
He went on to draw attention to the fact that the Labour Party has
pledged to introduce a legal right to a tenancy agreement for
people who are renting privately.
It also intends to do more to support investment into such
properties, the politician pointed out.
